Financial literacy essential
27 Feb 2017
Stanbic Bank Botswana remains committed towards a strong financial literacy agenda, with financial literacy serving as a key strategic imperative for the Bank.
A press release from Stanbic Bank says the most recent initiative, is the launch of the Bank’s third radio series in recent years, dubbed: “Better Business; More Lebotha Reloaded” or simply BBML Reloaded- a weekly radio show aimed at educating listeners more on business matters and financial management for small to medium businesses.
The show will be launched on February 28 at 6:30pm on Yarona FM. Previous versions of the show, as per the release, successfully addressed both personal money management and entry-level business finance, respectively, with positive reception from listeners and members of the community.
“BBML Reloaded aims to better inform, educate and support Small and Medium Enterprises in Botswana, building upon a legacy of previous shows with a similar concept,” says Stanbic Bank Botswana head of marketing, Ms Stephanie Stoneham.
The show, according to the release is one of a number of key and strategic initiatives designed to enhance financial literacy across Botswana. It further states that even though finance and accounting exist in schools from secondary through to tertiary, there are still many that may not have been exposed to this knowledge.
Stanbic Bank Botswana head of marketing, as per the release, also says the bank has noted a lower than desirable level of financial education and money management across the country and believe that “having this knowledge stands to improve a number of aspects in our daily lives, for example; household debt, that continues to cause concern and develop the culture of saving.
“We wanted to do more, and so we have really prioritised driving financial literacy in communities we operate in. We have a number of big projects in the works for this year, and BBML Reloaded is one of those. And we’re very excited about driving this,” she adds.
The release says the show seeks to encourage SMEs, which are the largest sector in the business community. ENDS
