Promotional play-offs kick off

12 Jun 2013

The first leg of the premier league promotional play-offs between Jwaneng Comets and Satmos FC is scheduled for Jwaneng’s Galaxy Stadium on Saturday night.

The encounter would be a matter of life and death for the mining town teams since both had the privilege of playing in the premier league before.

Having suffered a blow when they succumbed to a 4-0 loss to Modipane United in their last game, the Jwaneng side would be expected to come with guns blazing in an effort to book themselves the last space in the elite premier league.

“As the host, we are obviously aiming for a win with a huge margin to be on the safe side and to deny our opponents an away goal which can act to their advantage in the second leg,” Jwaneng Comets public relations officer, Kealeboga Ramogobya said.

He noted that Satmos were a good competitor and they would not undermine them. He said even though the just ended Debswana inter-mine games were to some extent a distraction to their preparations, all was not lost because the games also provided training for the players.

Comets would into the play-offs under the tutelage of interim coach, Yster Seamokwena. On one hand, Satmos were also approaching the clash with the hope of emerging winners.

“This is one game we are going to treat as a final. When we started the season we wanted an automatic promotion to the premier league but due to unforeseen challenges we ended up in the second position, but the quest is still there,” said Satmos spokesperson, Mpezeni Sambandawe.

He said since his team had been active for the past weeks, they had been trying different combinations using the recent games as part of the preparations for the play-offs. He said even though they could not undermine Comets’ capabilities, there was no excuse for them to lose because they had been preparing so well for the games.

“I believe we will fare well because we would have no excuse to lose. We also urge our supporters to come in numbers as we need them as the 12th player.” Meanwhile the second leg of the play-offs will take place in Selebi-Phikwe on June 22. ENDS
