Taung Community Hall has structural defects

23 Feb 2017

Taung community hall has structural defects and is unsafe safe to be used by the public, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso has told Parliament.

Answering a question from the MP for Ramotswa, Mr Samuel Rantuana, Ms Tshireletso said the building was cracked, with a derelict ceiling, power supply was also not working because cables were destroyed and that the structure was built on black cotton soil.

The hall, she said, was built using the drought relief programme in 1980, and was then used for a short period of time in 1989 for holding beauty contests and other activities.

“Having noted severe cracking of the walls, the community stopped using it,” she said.

Mr Rantuana had asked the minister to explain why the Taung community hall was not open for public use and if it has ever been used.
