Air Botswana releases 52 employees

23 Feb 2017

Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila has told Parliament that 52 employees have been released under the voluntary exit scheme by Air Botswana in December 2016. Minister Mokaila stated that the airline is in the process of releasing 50 more employees.

However, he indicated that internal consultative process must be completed first before effecting the retrenchments.

He further indicated that the airline had not employed anybody in positions that fell vacant as a result of the retrenchment. Mr Mokaila was responding to a question from MP for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa, who wanted to know how many employees were retrenched by Air Botswana during their retrenchment process and if there were any plans to retrench more employees.

MP Nkaigwa also wanted to know how many have been employed in the same positions following retrenchment.
