Mahalapye hosts Debswana FDN giants

22 Feb 2017

All roads lead to Mahalapye this weekend, where a mammoth clash is billed in the Debswana First Division North (FDN) league.

It is not just an ordinary fixture as it involves two of the top teams perched on the summit of this competitive and entertaining league, with a BTC Premiership automatic promotion being the ultimate price.

BR Highlanders will be facing at home, a hard-nut to crack in the mould of high flying Francistown super team, Tafic, popularly known as Matjimenyenga.

This encounter has all the ingredients of a super clash and it will be left to Oris ‘Boyo’ Radipotsane of BR Highlanders and Elias Chinyemba as well as Mmoloki ‘Wrist’ Mmusi of Tafic to mix everything to deliver a mouthwatering game.

BR Highlanders come into the game with 28 points and lying second, with five points being the gap between them and their visitors, Tafic, which lies at the top of the log with 33 points.

Having drawn two all with neighbouring Palapye town’s Motlakase Power Dynamos over the weekend, BR Highlanders would go into the game with nothing but a win on their minds as a draw will continue being costly for their BTC Premiership comeback dreams.

On the other side, Tafic are simply unstoppable as they annihilated Selibe Phikwe side, FC Satmos by two goals to nil on Sunday and would need to keep up the momentum and continue their winning spree.

So the Railways grounds in Mahalapye will be the place to be for many of the two sides supporters to bear witness to what proves to be a very difficult fixture for both sides, more especially that BR Highlanders would not want to lose and give Tafic the league leadership advantage so easily in their own backyard.

Meanwhile, other games of the Debswana FDN will see Chobe United, who are perched on position five with 23 points face position seven Maun Tigers, who have 15 points in Prisons grounds in Kasane on Saturday.
Still on Saturday, Great North Tigers (GNT) on position 10 with 11 points will host Real Movers of Selibe Phikwe, who have 12 points and on position nine at the old Francistown Stadium.

Bottom of the log, FC Satmos with five points would entertain third placed Sua Flamingoes, who have 27 points at Phikwe’s Nico ground while Motlakase, with 27 points and position four will together with Morupule Wanderers perched on position eight with 14 points will visit Pilikwe to sort out their Palapye differences.

The only game fixtured for Sunday would see Francistown sides ECCO City Greens on position six with 20 points face Tasc, who are on position 11, second from bottom, face off at the old Francistown Stadium for the bragging rights and all the games start at 4pm. BOPA
