Ramotswa village was on Tuesday left isolated following heavy rains that led to over spilling of Taung and Ngotwane River.
Many waterways are swollen, some roads are submerged, leaving the village completely disconnected from the rest of the country.
Hundreds of people, including school children, were today left stranded in their flooded homes as they could not cross the overflowing Taung River, which separates the frontier village from Ramotswa Station, better known as Taung, which is the only way out to other places in the country.
The heavy rains, which affected most parts of the country, also led to the temporary closure of Ramotswa Border Post due to overflowing Ngotwane River.
Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) offices along the border and staff houses as well as some section of BaMalete Luthren Hospital, where vehicles, mortuary and hospice were unreachable due to overflowing Ngotwane River.
In Taung, the rains left parts of the railway line exposed while some sections of the Ramotswa-Boatle Road were also destroyed.
Ramotswa Police Station commander, Superintendent Keoagile Tau, said the Ramotswa-Taung road was closed on Monday night after water covered the road.
By Tuesday noon, the road remained closed although the floods were subsiding.
Superintendent Tau said there were no accidents recorded.
However Supt Tau said in some areas public properties were reported to have been destroyed by the floods.
He therefore cautioned the public to be alert and on guard of the water levels around the village. BOPA
