Contractor fails to meet deadline
20 Feb 2017
Delay in allocation of Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) plots in Sowa was caused by failure to complete the land servicing project by the initial contractor.
This was said by Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi when answering a question in Parliament on Thursday.
He said the servicing of SHHA plots in Sowa was planned for two years, and the initial contract was commissioned in 2008 and expected to be completed in June 2010. The second contract was awarded in 2015 and was affected by litigation, which had since been resolved, he added.
“The current project was awarded in January 2017 and is expected to be completed within six months,” he said. Nata-Gweta legislator, Mr Polson Majaga had wanted the minister to elucidate if he was aware that Self Help Housing Agency plots in Sowa Town have not been allocated to date, what has caused the delay in allocating these plots, and how many years was this project planned for.
