No plans to impose tax
16 Feb 2017
Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services has no plans of imposing a tax on allocated freehold land that remains undeveloped for many years. Answering a question in Parliament on Wednesday, Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi said freehold land whether developed or undeveloped was subject to current applicable forms of taxes in the country, such as property rates. Botswana Land Policy, he said provides for extension of payment of rates to all forms of tenure, and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has initiated the process of revisiting the relevant legislation to effect that. Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse, had asked the minister if he would consider imposing a tax on allocated freehold land that remains undeveloped for many years.
