Funding to help Boteti

14 Feb 2017

Boteti Southern and Central Cluster villages’ water supply project comprising of Mokoboxane, Mopipi, Kedia, Xhumo, Toromoja, Mmadikola, Rakops and Xere is a subject of the ongoing negotiations that government is pursuing with the World Bank Group for funding. This was said by the Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi in Parliament on Monday. Responding to a parliamentary question from Specially Elected MP, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo, the assistant minister said the negotiations were part of the strategy for funding of some critical projects as planned for in the NDP 11. He said the design review, which was necessary as a pre-requisite for the construction, had been concluded, and preparation for the procurement of a contractor was underway, with a view that the project could be advanced to construction during the current year after securing the funds needed for construction. Mr Moipisi said, “The construction is estimated to take 24 months and it will be completed in mid 2019.” Ms Kenewendo had asked the minister to state when the Boteti Southern Cluster would have full access to potable water given that this was planned for in the National Development Plan 10.
