Water Tariffs to go up effective April 1
14 Feb 2017
Since 2008, potable water connection fees were reviewed once in 2015 while water tariffs were reviewed twice, Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi told Parliament on Monday. “Currently, Water Utilities Corporation provides water at a standard rate of up to 50 metres for P2000, which includes the corporation digging the trenches and P1 500, where the customers dig trenches for themselves,” said Mr Moipisi. The assistant minister said this was an increase from the original P840 with no option of self-trenching, adding that as for potable water, tariffs were increased by 10 per cent in 2012 and 15 per cent in 2013. He indicated that the tariff would increase by 25 per cent for government and 15 per cent for domestic and business effective from April 1. The MP for Selebi Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the minister to state the number of times water tariffs and connection fees have increased since April 2008, and the amounts as well as percentages.
