Boteti region to benefit from NDP 11

Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Kenneth Matambo says a total of P690.09 million has been allocated for development projects to be carried out in villages of Letlhakane, Mosu and Mmeya in the first three years of the National Development Plan 11.
Responding to a question in Parliament on Thursday, Mr Matambo said the projects include upgrading of the Letlhakane hospital with designs planned for 2018 and construction to commence in 2019, construction of Police Station staff housing and the designs are expected to be undertaken in 2017 with construction planned for 2018 and minimal land servicing expected to be undertaken between 2017 and 2018.
Mr Matambo said at Mosu, construction of a road from Mosu to Thalamabele is expected to start in 2017 and be completed in 2018, while in Mmeya construction of a customary court started in 2016 and is scheduled for completion in 2017 while provision of solar power to the primary school and staff houses is expected to start in 2018 and be completed by 2019.
He told Parliament that regarding related job opportunities, there would be direct employment during construction and also spin-offs for small business. In addition, he said, new job opportunities would be created after completion of the projects either directly or indirectly.
He said these are not self-liquidating but are geared towards uplifting social wellbeing of communities in these villages hence there is no direct expected revenues from them. MP for Boteti East, Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister how much had been budgeted for the projects to be carried out in Letlhakane, Mosu, Mokubilo, Mmatshumu, and Mmeya under the first three years of NDP 11.
Mr Lelatisitswe also wanted the minister to state projects to be carried out in each village, year of commissioning, related job opportunities that would be carried out in the same period and the estimated revenue that would be realised by government when these projects are complete. ENDS
