Hobby turns into business

Mr David Ncube of Mochudi went to Sowa Town to look for a job but, as fate would have it, he ended up self-employed after a futile search for a job.
The 46-year-old Ncube, who is familiar with carpentry and joinery and did it as a hobbie, was lucky to meet a similarly gifted 53-year-old Ramatlotlo Ditshotlo of Serowe.
Together they started a woodwork business as partners making wooden products such as chairs and tables.
“I and my partner are very good at woodwork, and together we have taken our capacities to greater heights and our core products include chairs, garbage bins, tables and sofas as per client request in any desired pattern or design,” said Mr Ncube.
The idea of turning to themselves for a living was hatched in response to the soaring unemployment amidst the high cost of living.
With time, recycling came to their minds as they had noticed that wooden pallets were always being burnt to ashes at Botswana Ash with thick smoke polluting the environment.
“We started buying these pallets and our love for making items out of wood grew and became even some kind of entertainment for us,” Mr Ncube said.
The duo is convinced that their business is promising since they receive orders from all walks of clients.
“Challenges are not many. We only need land for a fully-fledged workshop and also some funding for further expansion of the business,” he said. ENDS
