Transfer of plots motion passes
13 Feb 2017
A motion calling for transfer of plots to beneficiaries of deceased applicants was adopted by Parliament after it was briefly debated last Friday.
MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi who tabled the motion in the last sitting of Parliament in December, said many people had passed away whilst waiting to be allocated residential plots, leaving their children with nowhere to live.
“In cities like Francistown, it takes something like 23 years for someone to be allocated a plot. In the event they die their families end up suffering,” Mr Mmolotsi said.
MP for Gaborone Central, Dr Phenyo Butale supported the motion, saying since applicants were made to wait for about 20 years to be allocated plots, it was important that their children inherited the application in the event they died.
Dr Butale moved for the motion to be adopted and the House agreed unanimously. ENDS
