The Kalahari Conservation Society (KCS) has engaged the services of a drama group called Tshukudo Ya Etsho to interpret the messages of environmental conservation with a focus on rhino conversation, in a theatrical performance as part of the education and awareness campaign.
A news release from Barclays Bank of Botswana states that Tshukudo Ya Etsho is a stage drama intervention that aims to raise and enhance awareness about rhino conservation in Botswana.
It shall further persuade the audience to actively participate in rhino protection regardless of their geographical position in Botswana.
The release says this performance which began in Serowe on January 23, will continue over the next two weeks in Mochudi, Molepolole, Jwaneng, Letlhakane, Maun, Kasane and Gaborone.
It further states that despite the numerous challenges facing the Botswana’s fauna and flora, environmental conservation remains critical to the sustainable development of any community and Barclays Bank of Botswana has made a firm commitment to play a meaningful role in contributing to the important undertaking.
“Since 2010, Barclays Bank of Botswana has been working with the Kalahari Conservation Society (KCS) to provide environmental education coupled with money and entrepreneurial skills for communities particularly in the northern part of Botswana,” states the release.
A number of youths benefitted from the sponsorship to attend professional guiding course and were sent on internships with various game reserves, and in 2016 the environmental and financial literacy training was extended to anti-poaching officers.
The release states that educational sessions were also held for school going children recognising the important role that they play in raising awareness amongst family members and the role they will play as future leaders.
In 2015, Bank of Botswana launched the Rhino Debit Card which allows individuals to contribute to the rhino conservation by simply using their debit card.
A percentage of the income made from the debit card is donated to entities that are working on the protection and conservation of the rhino,” states the release. ENDS
