Ministry will consider maintenance

08 Feb 2017

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development through the Francistown City Council will consider the maintenance of the Molapo infrastructure services in its recurrent budget, subject to availability of funds.

Answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr France Van Der Westhuizen said, notwithstanding the fact that the developer of Molapo infrastructure did not hand over the roads to Francistown City Council, and that Molapo estates is situated in a freehold land, the infrastructure services therein remain a public good hence within the council’s mandatory responsibility.

The Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister if he would consider giving a waiver for the Molapo infrastructure to be maintained, even though the developer did not hand over the roads to Francistown City Council (FCC), given that the issue had been going on for a long time.
