New initiative targets youth start-up businesses

08 Feb 2017

If the vision for the soon to be launched Smart Youth Botswana (SYB) is anything to go by, the organisation might soon change the way young Batswana do business.

Ms Doreen Rotsi shared in an interview that the initiative, which is the brainchild of Mr Moemedi Kavari, was established September last year with the view to empower young people especially with start- up businesses to shepherd their ventures to success.

The representative said as an organisation they were driven by the fact that they believed young people were architects of their own destiny therefore combining their talents, experiences and voices could take them far in life.

“We aim at harnessing the power of young people from all walks of life with the view to help them help themselves,” she said.

Ms Rotsi highlighted that they offered business support services for their members such as company registration, tax clearance, bank account opening, annual returns, monthly business coaching clinics as well as employment readiness programme among others.

Ms Rotsi further shared that her organisation is also behind the Be Your Own Boss movement which is aimed at raising funds for youth and women entrepreneurs.

As for joining SYB, she said the organisation was open to anyone under the age of 35, adding that educational background was not a requirement.

Although there is no registration fee, she said members were required to pay a monthly subscription fee of P25 or P300 per annum.

She furthermore encouraged young people to visit SYB website at www.smartyouthbotswana.wixsite.com/smart and Facebook page Smart Youth Botswana or visit the office in Gaborone at Fairgrounds mall.ENDS
