08 Feb 2017
Mahalapye will host its first charity half marathon on March 25. In an interview, Mabedi Society chairman, Oabile Mongale said the society would host their first ever half - marathon.
Mongale said the marathon would be categorised into three races, the 21km, 10km and a 4km fundraising race. All the races will start from Rangers grounds in Mahalapye.
As a society, he said they wish to use the money made from the marathon to give back to the less privileged in and around Mahalapye.
He said they were working with social workers to identify possible beneficiaries. He explained that giving back to the needy could never be enough, even though there were several organisations and individuals already helping to change lives.
He said they saw the need to also contribute and meet government halfway. “We do not only operate and offer our services in Mahalapye but nationally, but we chose to host our first annual half marathon here because the host organisation of the marathon, Mabedi Society; was established in the village and we are planning to build our headquarters here,” he said.
Further, he explained that Mabedi society was made up of youth from across the country who wish to change the lives of their fellow countrymen for the better and ensure that they help provide better living conditions for those who could not afford to provide for themselves.
He stated that the society was founded in Mahalapye in 2012 and had been operational since then. Mongale called unto the community and possible sponsors to support them and help make a success out of the event, which would not only be fun, but fulfilling for them knowing they had changed someone’s life.
