Parents must spend time with children
11 Jun 2013
Project officer for Kgetsi ya Tsie, Mr Clive Maluke has appealed with parents to spend more quality time with their children.
Speaking at a Journey of Life workshop recently, Mr Maluke said parents were best providers of early childhood care. In many instances, he said, parents tended to belittle themselves but their role could never be substituted.
Mr Maluke said when children grew up they faced problems and sometimes the problems became too cumbersome needing parents’ intervention. He said there were many responsibilities that parents had towards their children noting that a parent should provide a safe environment, provide a child with the basic needs and teach the child morals and values.
Mr Maluke said parents should also provide appropriate and effective discipline and should be involved in their child’s education. For this to happen, he explained that parents should be able to understand their children’s needs.
He said children should grow up without worries under their parent’s care but in some cases they stayed at home while others in the poor families took care of some family members.
Mr Maluleke said in some cases, children were left to look after their siblings while their parents were working on the farms and children must not be left alone to fend for themselves.
He appealed to parents to stop neglecting their children. ENDS
