Time now for young people to act on ideas

02 Feb 2017

Specially Elected MP, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo, has encouraged youth to take a more proactive stance in creating employment instead of depending on government for employment opportunities.

Giving a keynote address at the inaugural Business Intervention; Entrepreneurship Week, hosted by Lucretive Modique Group in Gaborone, Ms Kenewendo said graduates should not ignore their business ideas.

“What has been said is that one should get a job after they get their qualifications and later venture into business, but I am saying if you have ideas now, start and do not wait,” she said.

She indicated that government was burdened with a huge wage bill and it was up to the youth to change things by driving a private sector led economy.

“It is up to us as leaders of tomorrow to make sure that we turn things around and refrain from finger pointing,” she said.

Ms Kenewendo said graduates needed to start early with planning for a life after tertiary education.

For her part, event chief organiser, Ms Laone Desert, said the project aimed to show university students that there was an alternative.

“The fact remains that there are no jobs,” she said.

She indicated that next year they would conduct the project in other universities. BOPA
