First division action returns this weekend

31 Jan 2017

After an almost lifetime wait, mouthwatering Debswana First Division North (FDN) returns this coming weekend with each team of the 12 fixtured to play.

With Francistown side Tafic on pole position with 26 points, an equal number as the runner-ups, Mahalapye-based BR Highlanders, the fight for automatic promotion to the BTC Premiership has never been this hot and tight.

Tafic, under the tutelage of the duo of Mmoloki ‘Wrist’ Mmusi and Blessing Moyo will be hosting another Francistown side, Great North Tigers (GNT) in one of the many second city derbies on Saturday at the old stadium, their unofficial slaughter house.

The Edward Leposo drilled GNT find themselves perched in position nine with 10 points and would be facing a determined Matjimenyenga Boys, as their multitudes of supporters call them.

BR Highlanders on the same date would also be looking forward to toppling Tafic at the summit of the log when they host eighth placed Maun Tigers, who have an equal number of points as GNT at Railways grounds.

Third placed Motlakase Power Dynamos of Palapye, who have 23 points, still fancy themselves as eventual league winners and would be meeting seventh position side

Real Movers, who have so far garnered 12 points at Swallows ground.

Tasc, who are looking at possible relegation with a naked eye as they just have six points, two more than bottom placed Selebi-Phikwe outfit FC Satmos would face 10th placed Major David Bright coached Morupule Wanderers, who have seven points at Swallows ground in Palapye on Sunday.

The Tango Boys are finding the going tough this season and might just be on a one way fall to oblivion if they were to relegate at the end of the highly competitive Debswana FDN.

FC Satmos, on four points and at the league’s tail, would host Francistown outfit, ECCO City Greens, who are on position six with 18 points at Phikwe stadium.

This is a must win game for both sides if they are to start the second round in the right footing and avoid the last minute haste attempts to remain in the country’s second elite league.

In the salt mining town of Sowa, Sua Flamingoes would host new kids on the block, Chobe United and both sides perched on positions five with 18 points and four with 20 points respectively, would be all out to annihilate each other at Sowa Stadium.

All the games, except the Morupule Wanderers versus Tasc (Sunday) would be played on Saturday and start at 3pm. BOPA
