Galaxy an inch away from proceeding to final
30 Jan 2017
On Sunday, Jwaneng Galaxy put themselves in a good position of proceeding to the lucrative Mascom Top 8 final, after scoring an away goal against BDF X1 at the National Stadium.
The solo goal came just a minute after the break, when Thabang Sesinyi received a back heel pass from Tebogo Sembowa and without wasting time scored a goal for his team.
Now in the second leg of the quarter finals, Galaxy need to hold BDF X1 to a goalless draw for them to find themselves in the finals for the first time since the launch of Top 8 cup.
However, BDF XI coach Nelson Setshwane said in an interview that his team did not play well more especially in the first 45 minutes.
He said Galaxy were too smart as they managed to derail them from their plan, adding that the army side only managed to tick in the remaining 10 minutes after he made some changes.
Furthermore, he said Galaxy created a lot of scoring opportunities. “Dubula could have buried us with more than six goals, and honestly it was not our day, “he said.
Setshwane was optimistic that they would go back to the drawing board to strategise.
Jwaneng Galaxy coach, Michael Sithole said their game plan was to score an away goal, adding that he was not impressed with his player’s performance given that they could have scored more than one goal.
“We created a lot of opportunity but my strikers did not take advantage of that.
I also think that being the first timers in the Top 8 made them nervous,” he said.
Sithole however said the solo goal had given his players confidence and they were looking forward on how they could finish the game on their home ground. BOPA
