Tenacity sustains Kooneeng
25 Jan 2017
Mr Alex Kooneeng (27) of Kanye has refused to be pushed to the edge of unemployment and poverty.
His tenacity helped him to think outside the box to find something to put on the table.
Just a stone throw away from Mongala mall in Kanye is Mr Kooneeng’s car wash.
Most of customers leave their vehicles for cleaning while doing shopping at the mall.
Mr Kooneeng said his business was strategically positioned.
Mr Kooneeng said the knowledge he gained while working at Pap Louis Motors helped him in fixing pressure and vacuum cleaners because he was an auto-mechanic who also did panel beating and spray painting.
He said he had to ask for broken and damaged vacuum cleaners and repaired them to start his own business.
According to Mr Kooneeng, it did not take time for his business to blossom thus giving him an opportunity to buy new equipment from the proceeds.
He specialises in washing cars, carpets and couches, pointing out that his passion for cars dated back to his tender age.
Seeing a clean car, he said, excited him the most, adding that he had a staff complement of three people.
He had a reserve tank to avert halting the business during water shedding hours or in the event water reticulation system came to a halt, adding that the ingredients of success were hard work, perseverance and excellence in addition to quality service.
He said he normally charged P30 for small cars, P50 for mini buses and P100 for buses, emphasising that record keeping was critical to keep businesses buoyant since it assisted in decision making and giving advise to which direction the business should take.
However, Mr Kooneeng expressed gratitude that the car wash is booming, adding that he is working on increasing his operational space to accommodate more cars and is eyeing Youth Development Fund to take his business to another level. BOPA
