Moseki finds niche in electronic business

19 Jan 2017

One of the youth in Bobonong has established an electronic device repair business.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Mmabaledi Moseki (28) said his business specialised in broken and damaged televisions sets, phones, radios and other electronic devices.

He said his business started in 2010 after realising that people in Bobonong travelled long distances as far as Selebi Phikwe to repair electronic devices.

Mr Moseki said he used his savings to set up the business, which employed five people.

Mr Moseki aka M.B, who operates in one of the markets in Bobonong mall, said with the popularity of smartphones that were easily broken or damaged, his business has grown since its inception as the costs of repairing them are much lower than buying new ones.

“There is an upward movement in the amount of repairs these days as people choose to keep what they have rather than spend again on buying the same type of item,” he said.

Mr Moseki stressed that his business is the only one of its kind offering high good quality electronic service in Bobirwa.

“My clients are from Bobonong, Gobojango, Mathathane and nearby villages adding that the demand and reception is overwhelming,” he continued.

He cited lack of spare parts for repair in Bobonong as one of the problems that affects him most adding that he sometimes has to go as far as Gaborone as well as Francistown to source the repairing parts.

Mr Mmabaledi said to become an electronic device repairer is challenging as sometimes a repairer may find himself/herself in the hands of the police because a client has brought a stolen item to be fixed.

“Another challenge is that some phones are of low quality therefore they have a tendency of exploding when repaired,” he said.

He said to be an electronic device repairer is challenging as you have to be experienced and know the right parts to use for every device to be repaired.

Mr Moseki said, for an electronic device repair business to do well it is crucial for repairers to adapt to the times as technology changes every day.

He said to establish a business of his kind need a lot of determination and commitment for it to succeed. BOPA
