Palapye to host half marathon
09 Jan 2017
Organisers of the Palapye Half Marathon says preparations for the 21.1 kilometres race in April has already started.
One of the organisers, Moagi Rahube said they came up with the idea after realising that Palapye was growing so fast. However, he said the developments were unfortunately coming with bad habits such as drug abuse.
As part of their effort to curb drug abuse, he said they had also registered a sports company called Central Sports Centre to organise sporting activities for the Central region.
He said they were working collaboratively with Palapye Athletics Club adding that their event was sanctioned by Botswana Athletics Association (BAA).
The half marathon, he said was of international standards and their preparations were in line with the BAA guidelines.
He said they anticipated athletes from Botswana and outside the country.
Rahube further said registration was currently ongoing and the registration points were at Barcelos Restaurant-Palapye, BIUST sports office and Enjorence gym.
He said registration for the main race (21.1kilometres) was P100, while P90 for the 10 kilometres and P50 for the four kilometres race.
Elders and those with diabetes as well as high blood pressure would be registered for free.
He further said they would have health and wellness units from government and private clinics to conduct free tests and counselling.
He said they had received support from Palapye authorities and were happy about the project because they believe it would change the quality of life in the region. ENDS
