Youthful couple turns to clothing

28 Dec 2016

When life seemed dull and gloomy with no hope of a bright future, Mr Thuso Segatlhe (32) and his partner Ms Kedibone Tshabelang (25) came up with ways of earning a living.
The couple said they were motivated by the fact that they had to provide for their child.
“I work for a drilling company in Rasesa so there is income but I’m glad that my partner started her own business to complement what I earn,” he said.
Their business entailed buying and selling clothing merchandise for men including accessories.
Mr Segatlhe  said they purchased the clothes from South Africa, which they then sold from their stall in Jwaneng.
He said on a monthly basis, the business made sales of between P2 000 and P3 000, which he said it carried them through.
Mr Segatlhe said before they purchased new stock, they made a research to see what their competitors were selling as a way of ensuring that they bought items different and more appealing.
“There is competition of course but I believe we always win because of the kind of service we offer,” he said.
Mr Segatlhe said they tried by all means to satisfy the customer, therefore they went to an extent of enquiring from their customers what they would want to see in the store.
“We are led by the customers in this business and so we get most of our tactics from observing their buying traits,” he said.
As with any business, Mr Segatlhe said they experienced challenges but perseverance and their vision kept them going.
He said one of the challenges was that customers liked to negotiate prices asking for discounts.
He said if only people would buy their clothes the same way they did in stores of high standard, things would be better for them.
Mr Segatlhe urged youth and all those who might be unemployed to think of business ideas that could earn them a living and not to put all hope on government.
“I believe everyone is gifted in one way or the other so people should use their talent and skills to earn a living,” he said. ENDS
