Ntlhaile urges women to venture into business

Member of Parliament for Jwaneng/Mabutsane has encouraged women in his constituency to open businesses and contribute to the income of their households.

Speaking during a workshop organised for women in business, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile urged women to use availed programmes like gender affairs to start their businesses.

He said that ‘government is working hard in trying to empower women and therefore they should meet the government half way.’

He also advised women to use different networking platforms like workshops, free trainings and other motivational events to grow their businesses explaining that in such platforms, ‘there are women who are already successful who are always ready to give free advice and support to other women with interest in venturing in business.’

Mr Ntlhaile further encouraged women to work together and support in each other’s businesses.

Atlas Copco Human Resource Manager, Mr Wathuto Setsimatsima also encouraged women to take a step in changing their economic status.

He said that women should not shy away from opening businesses that are male dominated, emphasising that women are just as capable like men to run such businesses.

He explained that businesses like construction, mechanics and mining has a few number of women but the few that had ventured in such businesses were doing well therefore other women should take courage, strength and motivation to open up such businesses.

Mr Setsimatsima also emphasised that women should have the spirit of determination for their businesses, mentioning that they should force open closed doors with their passion, determination and persistence.

One of the women who attended the workshop, Ms Kedirebofe Sanka defined the workshop as eye opening, motivational and informative.

She said that she was more determined and motivated to start up a business that has been on the cards for a long time now.

She added that she has learnt the importance of networking for the growth of a business.

Ms Sanka also expressed hope that more women will open businesses and stop the dependency syndrome. ENDS
