Masisi to officially open Public Service Convention

07 Jun 2013

The Minister for Presidential Affairs, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi will officially open the national public service convention to be held at Boipuso hall from June 13-14.

Briefing permanent secretaries and heads of departments on June 6, organising committee chairperson, Mr Nathaniel Tlhalerwa said preparations for the convention were at an advanced stage.

He said there would be exhibition stalls by different ministries and presentations on performance done by Tsosa Motse Team from the Department of Surveys and Mapping and Social Studies Technical Academic Committee.

About 1 000 participants from different ministries are expected to participate in the carnival march which will take place on June 14.

The march, he said, would start from different points and participants will converge at UB Stadium where they will be addressed by the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) director, Mr Carter Morupisi.

Mr Tlhalerwa pointed out that they have organised enough gowns to be worn by the carnival participants adding that light snacks would be provided instead of lunch due to budgetary constraints.

He also said the football game final has been rescheduled from Friday to a later date to be confirmed in due course.

He said this was because of a curtain raiser between Cabinet and Permanent Secretaries in which President Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama had shown an interest to participate.

The day’s activities also include the inter-ministerial traditional dance competition as well as inter-ministerial poetry competition.

In the evening, there will be awards ceremony which participants will attend strictly by invitation.

DPSM deputy director, Ms Kebonye Moepeng said this year 130 officers would be given awards, an improvement from last year’s 59.

She said initially 210 names were submitted for nomination and the number was trimmed down following selection procedures.ENDS
