20 Dec 2016
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, has told Parliament that Francistown City Council (FCC) has an establishment of 22 social workers.
She said social workers were not currently paid scarce skills allowance since they were not listed among the cadres eligible for payment of allowance in line with public service management directive No.2 of 2008.
However, she said the ministry was working with Botswana national association for social workers to draft a social workers profession council bill.
She explained that the bill would address their code of professional conduct and regulate the practice of social work in Botswana.
Minister was responding to Francistown South MP, Wynter Mmolotsi who had asked minister to state number of social workers employed by FCC and why they are not paid scarce skill allowance given peculiarity of their profession. ENDS
