 Botswana Police deputy commissioner, David Mosetse encouraged referees fitness monitors who are set to undergo a week referees physical fitness monitors course to uphold the highest level of integrity in sport.

    Officiating at the beginning of the course in Gaborone on Wednesday, Mosetse called on the instructors to uphold integrity as they play a vital role in the development of football in the country.

He advised participants to guard against sport manipulation because it was one of the reasons why there was a lot of misconduct, which amounts to the likes of matchfixing, which was on the rise in the country.

With regard to the course they were about to embark, he said it was a trainer and trainee initiative, which was passed to referees in regions and other associations in Botswana at large.

“It seek to cover and achieve FIFA, CAF and BFA’s objective of improving the knowledge and fitness of training, which includes speed, training agility coordination and strength,” he said.

Mosetse explained that the course would provide participants with good insight into the fitness preparation of the referees and their assistants in the regions.

“Therefore, it will increase their quality fitness, since they have excellent instructors to update them with new teaching resources, methodologies and enhance their level of instruction.

Participants must know that BFA believes in your motivation and hard work, you are the ones who can help develop football in Botswana,” he said.

Giving an insight on the objectives of the training, physical instructor, Phodiso Rasetsoga appraised fitness as an integral part of refereeing.

Rasetsoga likened fitness to a foundation of a house, he said just like a good foundation of a house fitness in a referees was a very important aspect.

Therefore, he said the aim of the course was to improve the knowledge and quality of physical monitors.

“We are going to update ourselves on new ways of coming up with sound training programs, and new ways of monitoring referees,” he said. ENDS
