De Beers entitled to choice
15 Dec 2016
The Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Advocate Sadique Kebonang says De Beers is entitled to appoint people they find suitable to represent them on the board of Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB).
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, he explained that the arrangement where senior managers of De Beers Global Sightholder Sales (DBGSS) were also De Beers’ representatives in DTCB Board does not give them more advantage on information access.
“All directors from each party have equal access to information in DTCB.
The issue of one partner having more advantage of the other does not arise,” he said, stressing that the arrangement does not allow DBGSS to interfere with DTCB.
Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had questioned whether the arrangement where senior managers of DBGSS were also De Beers’ representatives in DTCB Board does not give them an upper hand in terms of access to information and corporate governance.
