Media Centre studio under maintenance

13 Dec 2016

The studio at Mochudi Media Centre, which is under the department of educational broadcasting, is undergoing maintenance and has not been operational since August.

According to Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya, the studio was last used in July by students under target 20 000 programme.

Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Goya explained that the facility was used to train teachers in video capture techniques, which is essential for assessment of Physical Education.

He further said Oodi College of Arts also used the facility for multimedia lessons. He said the centre was equipped at a cost of P1.5 million.

“Utilization of the studio, however, remains low and last year the Department of ICT and Media Services leased the outdoor studio, at a minimum cost, to upcoming young artists to record television programmes,” said Mr Goya on Monday, adding the outside broadcast van at the centre is now obsolete.

Boteti East MP Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the ministry to explain when the studio was last used, and if it would consider transferring it to the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development for young artists to use at a subsidized fee. ENDS
