No plans to appoint rehabilitation officer -Makgalemele
13 Dec 2016
The Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Phillip Makgalemele, says his ministry does not have any plan to appoint a rehabilitation officer for Molepolole.
Answering a question in Parliament on December 12, he said this was because the cadre had been phased out since 2007, however they were working on recruiting community physiotherapists for all DHMTs who would provide physiotherapy and basic rehabilitation services and refer clients for other specialised services.
He said community physiotherapists are also able to provide medical rehabilitation services which improve the lives of the people living with disabilities and their families, while other aspects of rehabilitation are the responsibility of other sectors.
MP for Molepolole South, Dr Tlamelo Mmatli, had asked if the minister was aware that Molepolole had a physiotherapist but no rehabilitation officer and if so when will the officer be appointed.
He also asked if the minister will consider employing at least two rehabilitation workers for the village to help improve the lives of people living with disabilities and their families, given the size of the population and the vastness of Molepolole. ENDS
