Mampori saves Tafic from defeat

12 Dec 2016

Tafic’s leading top goalscorer, Mooketsi Mampori saved his side from the jaws of defeat when he equalised on the 80th minute of the game during the Debswana First Division North (FDN) encounter.

Played under a sizeable crowd on Sunday at the old Francistown Stadium, their opponents, Real Movers of Selebi Phikwe had earlier shocked the FDN log leaders through a second minute goal by Akanyang Akanyang.

The shocker of a goal came as a result of a wonderfully taken free-kick by Movers captain, Chikudza Masole in the first minute, who forced Tafic goalkeeper, Thatayaone Thandazela to parry the hot left footed shot back into play.

This resulted in a goal mouth melee and Akanyang easily slotted in the goal to shock Matjimenyenga supporters and leave Thandazela ruing his basic goalkeeping mistake.

The goal seemed to take off steam from the log leaders, who came into the game after drubbing another Phikwe side, FC Satmos 4-0 last weekend.

Movers proved a hard nut to crack for Tafic as the Phikwe side dictated terms throughout the game and were unlucky to lose Akanyang due to injury on the 26th minute and was replaced by Odibeleng Tebogo.

Enterprising Lesego Moiphemedi was a marvel to watch as he easily contained the Tafic defence manned by the experienced Zeco Makafiri, Thato Mosweu and Phineas Kgotlang. Tafic striking trio of Mampori, M

batshi Machongo and Uyapo Thibathuwe huffed and puffed throughout the first half without any tangible results and could not easily penetrate Movers defence of Kgomotso Keitumetse, Comfort Dikupa and Kediemetse Radikoko.

In the second half, Tafic continued searching for that illusive equaliser while Movers continued to make inroads into their opponents’ box but the likes of Moiphemedi found Thandazela having recovered from his early costly mistake.

With the Matjimenyenga supporters nervous and biting the nails, seating on the edge of the seats, a well taken corner kick by Elias forced Movers goalkeeper Montsholetse Bosweletse to try and fist the ball over, only for it to fall on his defenders who failed to clear danger.

Mampori reacted quickly inside the 16 yard area and slotted the ball into the net to send his supporters into wild celebrations and relief from a possible embarrassing home loss. ENDS
