Miscellaneous Galaxy share spoils

12 Dec 2016

Jwaneng Galaxy and Miscellaneous played to a one-all draw in a luke-warm BTC Premiership game played on Saturday in Jwaneng.

From the first whistle, the hosts had an upper hand in terms of ball possession and distribution, which bore fruit in the 14th minute when Lesego Lubinda registered the first goal of the game with a tap-in from a side pass.

However, they failed to extend their lead with a penalty a few minutes after, to the disappointment of the supporters. The failed penalty piled pressure on the Jwaneng boys as they kept directing long shots to the goal posts, to no avail.

On the other hand Miscellaneous wasted a well-executed counter attack that looked promising, only for Master Masitara to delay the ball giving the Galaxy defence time to clear it off the dangerous zone.

Galaxy continued to miss chances that could have easily given them the much deserved three points,to add on to their previous wins. Thabang Sesinyi also wasted an opportunity when he saw himself unmarked just infront of the goalposts.

Even though the opponents were not engaging him much, Anthony Gouws kept his alertness and managed to deny the Serowe side a chance for an equalizer when Masitara aimed at his net.

The dying minutes of the first stanza saw pressure piling on Miscellaneous, the results of which were long desperate shots that failed to bear fruit.

Even the free kick they earned after Thabo Leinanyane was cautioned with a yellow card for obstructing Moyenga Chakova flew above the goalposts. They went for a break on a 1-0 score for Galaxy.

After recess, the Serowe side came with guns blazing ready for war, with more shots targeting Gouws’ goalposts. Their frequent visits to the box gave captain Boitumelo Mafoko and his co-defence a tough time in the second half.

Their efforts paid off when Bogosi Mfila equalised from a well-taken penalty.

Like a wounded lion, the Jwaneng side fought from all corners, even roping in their match-maker Moris Ruzivo for Lubinda. The tempo of the game changed as Galaxy fought for a lead, but they continued to miss even more chances until the last whistle.

Galaxy coach, Michael Sithole said even though they wanted a win, a draw was not a bad result considering their past wins. He said the intention was to work hard and focus on the last game to be played before the Christmas break.

Miscellaneous coach, Russia Chaba said he was impressed that his team managed to obtain one point despite the administrative challenges they were facing prior to the game. He said they did not expect anything apart from a loss, but fortunately they managed a draw. ENDS
