The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi, says implementation of reviewed salaries and conditions of service for Botswana Defence Force, Botswana Police Service and prisons department, which were completed using different consultants has not taken place.
Speaking in Parliament on December 9, the minister said the consultants made recommendations, which were processed through structures of government.
However, he said government decided afterwards to look at the matter of review of salaries and conditions of service in totality after similar submissions were made for the entire civil service.
Mr Kgathi staed that this approach was meant to ensure that requests for improving conditions of service for government employees were looked at in a balanced manner to avoid disparities.
“In this regard, consultations are still on going as to how to address conditions of service for the different sectors in the public service,” said Mr Kgathi, explaining that addressing conditions of service for the whole civil service was a complex process.
He said the cost for the exercise was forever escalating.
Gaborone Central MP, Dr Phenyo Butale, had asked the minister to explain progress made towards improving conditions of service of Botswana Defence Force, Botswana Police Service and prisons officers.ENDS
