The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Mr Shaw Kgathi has  told Parliament  that his ministry has 971 officers who have been in one scale for more than five years.

Responding to a question from Member of Parliament for Gaborone Central Dr Phenyo Butale, Mr Kgathi stated that the longest period stayed by an officer in one scale was 15 years saying 60 officers were affected.

He said he had requested for review of conditions of service for Botswana Defence Force, Botswana Police Service, Prisons Department and the entire public service, which he mentioned that it was unfortunate as it has since been affected by emerging situations such as the case of BCL.

Dr Butale had asked the minister to state the number of officers at the Department of Prisons who have stayed on the same scale for more than five years.

He had also wanted to know the longest period stayed by an officer in one scale and the number of officers affected.

Dr Butale further wanted to know what the ministry is doing to improve the situation. ENDS
