Orange promotes innovation

Chief executive officer of Orange Botswana, Dr Patrick Benon says his company has a strong commitment to growing the ICT sector and bring on board young minds who aspire to innovate and improve the way things are done.
Speaking on December 7 in an event to award and recognise young Batswana innovators who took part in the 6th Orange Social Venture Prize, which ran from May to September 2016, Dr Benon said Batswana have great potential and are very advanced when it comes to ICT, stating that in 2014 the first and overall prize was won by a Motswana under ModisaR farm Management Applications, whilst in 2015, ‘These Hands’, a Botswana company ended in top 10 position.
“The 2016 first prize winner was selected from Morocco and it was announced a few weeks ago in Cape Town. However, Orange Botswana has organised a national award for local candidates. With this award, we intend to show our local innovators that we believe in their dreams and we recognise their talent,” he said.
Orange Botswana received 28 submissions from Batswana companies and Conexus Management Learning System emerged winners from the evaluation. They received P20 000 cash prize, two tablets and a certificate.
For her part, Conexus co-founder, Ms Melissa Tafila appreciated the support by Orange, adding that they are going to put this prize money towards improving learning in Botswana,” she said.
Conexus is an educational company that has developed educational software to provide interactive learning materials to learners at primary and junior certificate level, through desktop applications, apps, e-books, and reality books . ends
