Leather park project still on cards
11 Dec 2016
Plans for the long awaited construction of a leather park in Lobatse are taking shape.
Addressing the last 2016 full council meeting on December 7, Lobatse Town Council mayor, Ms Malebogo Kruger indicated that the project was envisaged to boost the economy of the town.
She acknowledged that even though the roll out of the project has taken a longer time than expected, the community of Lobatse had been patient.
She therefore assured the council and members of the community that a number of activities in the first phase of the project are being carried out.
The activities include the formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), drafting of land lease agreement, completion of an Environmental Impact Assessment report, and identification of a technical advisor as well as development of terms of reference for project managers.
Ms Kruger however said that the tendering process for the construction of the project is yet to be carried out.
On other local projects, Ms Kruger indicated that preparations for an outdoor gym in Lobatse were ongoing. She noted that government had allocated P250 000 for the project in a bid to encourage physical fitness.
Ms Kruger also expressed satisfaction that Lobatse Town Council was doing well in attracting investors to the district.
She noted that currently the council was soliciting bids for the development of a shopping mall near the bus rank area, which project is expected to help in facelifting the bus rank.
Ms Kruger explained that tender documents were being vetted by relevant committees and that consultations with relevant stakeholders were in progress. ends
