Ministry revises animal movement protocol
08 Dec 2016
Following favourable clinical findings in cattle in zones 3c and 6a, it has been found necessary to revise cattle movement protocol.
A press release from the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security says movement of live cloven hoofed animals into zones 6a (partly North East and partly Central) and 3c (part of Central and North East) is allowed with a permit direct for slaughter or to registered feedlots.
It also says movement of live cloven hoofed animals out of zones 6a and 3c to the rest of the country is not allowed.
The release further states that movement of live cloven hoofed animals within zones 6a and 3c is allowed with a permit after favourable clinical inspection.
Meanwhile, the movement of both fresh meat and matured deboned beef out of zone 6a and 3c is also allowed with a permit.
Movement of all processed ready to eat products, such as sour milk, dry salted biltong, cheese, butter, yoghurt is allowed into and out of zone 6a and 3c without a permit. ENDS
