Educational TV uses P1.5m

05 Dec 2016

The annual budget for educational television broadcasting production under the ministry of Basic Education is P1.5 million.

Assistant Minister Mr Moiseraele Goya explained to Parliament that the educational television broadcasts for two hours per day on Botswana Television.

He further said all secondary schools in the Gaborone and Mochudi area  access programmes on terrestrial signal.

“But schools are not making regular use of the programmes due to the timing of our transmission.

The programmes are more accessible on weekends when repeat transmissions are made,” Mr Goya said on Thursday (December 1).

“The future of educational broadcasting is dependent on access to increased broadcasting time and the production capacity of the unit.

We plan to grow the daily broadcast hours and produce programming for all levels of the education sector from pre-primary to tertiary over the coming years,” the assistant minister added.

Boteti East MP Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the ministry to state the annual cost of running the educational broadcasting programme.

He also wanted to know schools in Gaborone and Mochudi area using the educational broadcasting programme. ENDS
