Lady Khama super sprint triathlon impresses

Lady Khama Charitable Trust’s newly introduced Super sprint Triathlon event took place at the University of Botswana on Sunday (December 4).
The trust’s patron, President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama graced the event.
The super sprint triathlon was a combination of 400m swim, 10km cycle as well as two and a half kilometer run.
The event was aimed at raising funds for the beneficiaries.
According to chairperson of Lady Khama Charitable Trust Dale Ter Haar, the event went well with a good turn up of competitors.
“The event went well, people arrived on time and we had a good number of participants and we had eight different categories,”
He said the number for the individual category was 55 and the total of all participants was 125.
He said since the event was not common in Botswana, it would be hosted annually to add little bit of interest to the Gaborone sporting calendar.
Ter Haar noted that the trust had shown growth over the years and this year alone, they managed to host seven events and assisted around 13 organisations.
Meanwhile, winners of the triathlon were awarded P1 000 voucher courtesy of Spar, second place was P500 and the third place was P250 as for the individual category.
In the mixed teams category winners were awarded P3 000 voucher by, second place got P1 500 whereas third place were given P750 voucher.
The Lady Khama Charitable Trust, which was established in 2002, continues Lady Khama’s legacy by raising funds and making annual donations to core beneficiaries, the Super Sprint Triathlon was the fifth event in their calendar. ENDS
