Kgomodiatshaba youth have been implored to take advantage of government programmes to improve their lives.
Officially opening a youth festival at Kgomodiatshaba on June 4, Kgosi Tlhwane of Artesia said government initiated youth programmes in an effort to create opportunities for them to venture into business.
He therefore urged the youth to utilise opportunities for their own benefit and also create employment for others. Kgosi Tlhwane said the youth in Kgomodiatshaba stood to benefit more than their peers elsewhere as the village was under the Remote Area Dweller Programme, which came with many advantages. He said their youth festival acted as a platform for them to learn entrepreneurship skills and also enhance their life skills.
“For one to get achievement in life, they should leave their comfort zone and start climbing the mountain to see other opportunities,” he added. Kgatleng District youth officer, Mr Mpho Sefakwe said the objective of the youth festival was to equip youth with requisite skills to generate business ideas and to create awareness on availability of business development services.
He said they also wanted to share information, knowledge and skills that would position young people to be successful entrepreneurs. Mr Sefakwe added that the youth festival was brought to Kgomodiatshaba because they were still behind in applying for youth programmes even though they stood to benefit a lot to improve their lives.
He said it was necessary for the department of youth in collaboration with Botswana National Youth Council to organise a youth festival of that nature for the youth to learn about business with the hope to resurrect dying dreams.
Among departments invited to make presentations at the youth festival are Local Enterprise Authority, Agribusiness, Crops department and also department of Cooperatives.
