Hotspurs taste second victory
04 Dec 2016
The newly promoted Mahalapye United Hotspurs players and supporters were over the moon over the weekend as their team finally tasted second victory at the expense of the Maun-based Sankoyo Bush Bucks at Maun Sports Complex.
Hotspurs beat the Maun lads 1-0, courtesy of a goal from sensational Mpho Monyena in the 40th minute of the first half.
The team had three points from seven games played and was standing in position 16 Premiership League log.
However, the winning coach, Candy Tsheboeng could not hide his happiness in an interview after the game noting that the maximum three points they collected would boost the morale of his boys in the coming encounters.
He said his boys had been experiencing difficulties in scoring despite the wonderful performances in the previous games.
“Today God was on our side as we managed to collect the maximum points against a strong team like Ngurungu which had been beating big giants,” he added.
Tsheboeng said his game plan had worked wonders for his side noting that before kick off, he informed the boys not to respect Sankoyo but treat them as any team which they could face.
He said after recess, the players did exactly what he wanted hence they managed to defend the only goal of the game.
Although the game started well with both teams showing determination to win it seemed like the hosts were not in their best as they gave more room to their opponents when they hold the ball.
Ngurungu boys were a bit relaxed and it was only their goal keeper, Kabelo Kuti who worked an extra time as the visiting team fought tirelessly but he frustrated their efforts through his brilliant saves until the end of the game.
For his part, Sankoyo head coach, Drago Stanlojovic expressed disappointment regarding his team's performance.
He admitted that his team was not up to its best hence poor results. He associated their loss with lack of preparation prior to their encounter noting that of late the boys had not been training because of some administrative issues.
Stanlojovic said Ngurungu is a good team with young, energetic and capable players but stated that the boys were not focused as their morale is down due to some problems within the club.
However, he gave credit to the winning team and wished them good luck in their next encounter against Gilport Lions. ENDS
