04 Dec 2016

The game between Ecco City Greens and Palapye- based side, Morupule Wanderers, which was played at the Francistown Old Stadium on Saturday (December 3) ended in a one- all draw.

Mamoja diski as Ecco are affectionately known went into the weekend encounter with promising records of two wins and a draw from their past three games.

After their last game against one of their city rival, Tasc, they were pegged on position five with 14 points; just five points behind log leaders.

On the other side, Major David Bright's charges were coming into the game with a string of losses, having lost 2-1 against Tafic some two weeks back and lost 1-0 to Motlakase United last week. The Saturday encounter started at a slow pace with both teams showing less effort in attacking each other.

As the game skipped past the tenth minute, Ecco started to coordinate well hence started piling more pressure on their opponent with an urgency to secure an early goal.

On the fifteenth minute, Greens' Pontsho Sephutho received a breakthrough pass from Bangwe Mudongo but still failed dismally to score as he hit an over the top shot that flew way over the goal post.

Though Wandi Wandi as Wanderers are affectionately known, had plenty of goal scoring opportunities going forward, their cross into the box often found their strikers absent to make clinical finishes and give their team a lead.

The visitors displayed breath-taking football on the middle of the pitch with 21 years old playmaker, Mosimanegape 'Kakale' Moesi dictating terms in the centre of the park.

Morupule Wanderers nearly secured an early goal when on the 20th minute; Godiraone 'Zeco' Modingwane missed an opportunity at goal when his U-turn on the goal area was easily snatched by Ecco's goalkeeper, Boitumelo Semaatla.

During attacks, Ecco pushed almost all their players forward leaving behind three defenders to shield off any counter-attacks.

Despite his absence from football for some time due to academic commitments, Mamoja diski's Onkemetse Powe was entertaining to watch as he caused havoc for wanderers defence by easily dribbling past their opponents but unfortunately having no one to assist him cause an upset to wandi- wandi.

The two teams went to recess with 0-0 as the scores.

Sensing trouble, Major Bright made early changes on the second half by pulling out Oweleng Baruti for Kenalepe Mochai and also substituted Othusitse Mahube and replaced him with Kenalepe Mochai on the 48th minutes.

Ecco on the other hand pulled out Jaffell Zhinyuka and introduced Moagi Noge.

They also pulled out Bangwe Mudongo for Onalethata Ipelegeng.

The substitutions changed the artmosphere of the game as on the 56th minutes Morupule Wanderes secure their first goal of the game through Godiraone Modingwane's brilliant shot on target after easily maneuvering past Ecco City Greens’ napping defence.

Their celebration was short lived when Ecco's Pontsho Sephutho fouled Wanderers' Gaothobogwe Molemise. The resultant penalty was brilliantly scored by Bakang Malabola on the 62nd minute to level the scores to 1-1.

On the 80th minute, Ecco made their last substitution of the game in order to try and secure a second goal.

They removed their goal scorer, Bakang Malabola for Omphile Bantheri.

The two teams continued to attack each other but squandering clear chances at goals until the sound of the final whistle which ensured the final score remained 1-1. ENDS
