Parastatals owe govt P1.6b

The Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Kenneth Matambo says parastatals owe government P1.65 billion.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (November 30), Mr Matambo said Botswana Meat Commission owes the most money at P546 million, followed by Botswana Housing Corporation at P425.4 million.
He said next is the National Development Bank at P300 million, Botswana Post owes P140 million and Botswana Savings Bank P105 million.
“These loans were given out of the Public Debt Service Fund and each loan has a repayment schedule which is used to service such loans. Botswana Meat Commission is the only Parastatal which is failing to service its loans,” Mr Matambo said.
Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskings Nkaigwa had asked the minister to explain how much parastatals owed government, and name the top five such organisations. ENDS
