Minister aware of maintenance need at Motsumi junior school

04 Dec 2016

Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya has told Parliament that he is aware there is an urgent need of general maintenance of Motsumi Junior Secondary School.

He said Motsumi Secondary School also needed to upgrade the electricity supply.

Mr Goya explained that the school was last maintained in 2013/14 financial year and was therefore scheduled to be maintained in 2018/19 and said the high level of vandalism by students was disturbing.

He also said the water reticulation system of both clean and dirty water was as old as the school. The pipes diameters have also been reduced due to salt build up and have also lead to breakages and leakages in the school.

He also revealed the boy’s dormitory was burnt two years ago and was only partially repaired to date.

He said he was aware that 18 students were staying in a prefabricated hostel which is also in a dilapidated state with broken windows and doors. He said his officers have visited the site and have instructed them to attend to carry out the hostel repairs straight away in order to assist the school.

Minister Goya further said the school has general electrical problems due to over loading and was in need of upgrading. He said they attended the electrical faults from time to time.

He acknowledged that the problems might impact on the performance of the school. ENDS
