Rollers happy to bag Stanbic sponsorship

01 Dec 2016

Township Rollers president Jagdish Shah has expressed hope that sponsorship from Stanbic Bank would inspire the team to fight for more glory.

The reigning BTC Premiership champions launched a P3.6 million sponsorship deal with Stanbic Bank on Tuesday evening in Gaborone.

The sponsorship commenced at the beginning of the current season and will run until 2019.

Shah stated that the sponsorship would help Rollers grow into a much bigger brand than it is now, further saying it would inspire the team to out-perform everyone else on the football pitch.

“What you are giving us maybe in the next 10 years is going to make Rollers much bigger than what we are expecting,” Shah said.

The businessman furthermore expressed hope that the relationship between Mapalastina and Stanbic Bank would motivate other companies to follow suit and sponsor football teams.

“I welcome this particular relationship from you and this particular gesture of you associating with a club like us, and I can promise you with your gesture it will motivate many other companies, many other organisations to come forward. We have 16 teams.

We have so many first and second division teams.

We have ladies teams. We have so much talent, people like you if they can come forward it will take Botswana football to new heights,” he added.

Stephanie Stoneham, the Stanbic head of marketing, explained that the company was delighted and privileged to associate with Rollers. She said football is not just a sport, but a vehicle for leveraging partnerships, relationships and growth.

The bank’s head of business Calistus Chijoro described the partnership as a significant milestone in local football.

“We really believe that this relationship will grow and stand the test of time,” Chijoro said. ENDS
