Lady Khama Charitable Trust has added another competition dubbed Super Sprint Triathlon to their calendar of events. It will be held at the University of Botswana swimming pool this Sunday.
Speaking in an interview recently, chairperson of the Trust Dale Ter Haar outlined that Triathlon is a combination of three different activities.
“It is a super sprint triathlon, which is the first shortest distance triathlon that exist.
It is a combination of three different events, the first one is a four kilometer swim, the second is a 10km bike ride and the third one is a two and half kilometre run,” Ter Haar explained, adding that the competition will be interesting and unusual.
“It is a quite short race and quite exciting as there is a lot of action around the transition, where the competitors finish the race, get on the bike and start on running with no breaks,” he said.
Ter Haar pointed out that the competition is open to everyone and consists of two categories, the individual and team events.
He added that registration fee for the competition is P250 for individuals and P450 for teams and urged interested parties to log onto the Lady Khama Charitable Trust website www.lkct.org for registration.
The event would be sponsored by My Spar My Botswana as well as University of Botswana.
The LKCT chairman expressed hope that the event would P50 000 which will go into the central fund of the Trust.
The objective of LKCT is to raise funds to help organizations of less privileged people.
Through this triathlon event they aim to raise funds for beneficiaries and to add more interest to the Gaborone sporting landscape.
Ter Haar also said the trust aims to raise its profile through the event, adding they have so far managed to assist around 13 organizations this year. ENDS
