P140 million for EVM project

30 Nov 2016

Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale has told Parliament that the budget estimate for the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) project is P140 million.

He stated that the estimated amount would cater for the procurement of the EVMs, voter education and training of poll staff on EVMs. Mr molale said EVMs have not been procured, adding that IEC was currently working on the specifications for the EVNs which would facilitate procurement.

He said the procurement of EVMs would follow the established government procurement process prescribed in the PPADB Act, policies and procedures.

The minister said the company that would supply the EVMs would only be known after completion of the process that lead to the actual procurement.

MP for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister to state how much would be spent on the electronic voting machines and what procedures were followed in procuring such machines and which companies tendered. ENDS
