Constitution determines distribution
29 Nov 2016
The Constitution of Botswana has made a determination as to how power is distributed and devolved between three arms of government, says presidential affairs, governance and public administration minister, Mr Eric Molale. He said the three arms of government refers to Parliament with legislative
powers as per section 86, cabinet with executive powers as per section 47 read with section 50 and the judiciary as per section 95 to 107. “In this regard, the principle of separation of powers is well entrenched in Botswana,” added Mr Molale. Furthermore, he said Parliament provides oversight on the
executive through parliamentary committees and other means provided for in the standing orders. The MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had wanted to know how Parliament was expected to provide oversight on the executive when it was not independent. ENDS
